Types of Therapy
-
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)
Cognitive-behavioral therapy or CBT for short, is a form of talk therapy. Unlike other forms of talk therapy where the therapist only passively listens, CBT includes teaching coping skills to help regulate emotions, improve relationships and solve problems to help you improve your mental health and meet your therapy goals. Clients work with their therapist to identify unhealthy thought and behavior patterns that are keeping them stuck and change them to thoughts and behaviors that are helpful, realistic and effective. Some coping skills include calming skills, challenging thoughts, safety plans, assertiveness, communication, interpersonal skills, and mindfulness.
-
Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR)
Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is an evidence-based, specialized form of psychotherapy designed to help people process and heal from distressing life experiences, including trauma, anxiety, and emotional challenges.
EMDR focuses on helping the brain reprocess painful memories and negative beliefs in a way that reduces their emotional charge and allows clients to move forward with a greater sense of clarity and empowerment.
-
Exposure Response and Prevention
Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP) is a highly effective, evidence-based form of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) that is used primarily to treat Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD) and other anxiety-related disorders. ERP helps individuals confront their fears in a gradual and controlled way while resisting the urge to engage in compulsive or avoidant behaviors.
By repeatedly practicing ERP, individuals learn to break the cycle of fear and compulsions, reducing anxiety and regaining control over their lives.
-
Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT)
Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT) is an evidence-based form of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) designed to help individuals overcome the effects of trauma and develop healthier ways of thinking and living. CPT is widely used for treating Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) but is also effective for addressing other trauma-related symptoms, such as guilt, shame, and emotional numbness.
The goal of CPT is to help individuals understand how trauma has impacted their thoughts and beliefs, challenge unhelpful patterns, and create new, balanced perspectives that promote healing.
Believe it or not, the way you feel is not because your friend did not acknowledge you. The way you feel is due to the thought you had about it. It is not the situation that causes you to feel an emotion, but your perception or the meaning you assign to it.
